20, London.
Fine Art student and ultravixen
this is pretty much gnna be full of my work and maybe some ultravixens shoots if you're lucky ;)

So these are my final butterflies!

They are old family photos which I have copied and painted over to form the butterfly, my aim was to have them looking almost real from a distance and a few people who have walked past did think they were real until they really looked and saw the faces of people staring back.

Obviously you wont get that with these photos, but I personally feel that I have achieved what I wanted to do, I’m very proud of them and I am currently planning where I could take them next!

Im very aware that I’ve not been on here for a while… I havent even posted my finished work!

I’ve been incredibly busy with my grad show, getting all my work home from uni an just sorting a few things out. I also just wanted a break from everything, this year has been hectic, so much has been happening. I just wanted a few weeks to myself!

But im back! I’ve been to a few shows that im excited to talk about and i will also be posting my final work shortly :)

Last summer i read the rivers of London series.. But since I’ve been back at uni I’ve really not read anything but research material, i just don’t get time at the moment..

So with just 2 weeks left of uni im making myself a reading list! :) this is it so far, I’ve read a couple of them before but its been a while!

Looking forward to starting them! :)

i found a message my grandad wrote to my nan on the back of a photograph of him in his national service uniform.
its really touched me and i wanted to include it in my work, so i photocopied it 1/4 of the size and put it in a tiny bottle.
a message in a bottle to add to my cabinet.
the message says simply -

"To my dearest May,
with love and best wishes,
Your ever loving George
xxxxxxxxx”

why dont people send cute hand written messages anymore? it means so much more than a text, it has so much more emotion and its something physical which you can keep forever…
i love this message… i know its only short and simple, but it means so much.

my desk is a total mess right now!
need to clean up a bit i think!!

finally got round to killing off my butterflies (metaphorically) and framed them!

put a couple up on the wall but the two larger frames are still just sitting next to my desk.. i gave up and went home!

my curio cabinet has grown quite a bit since the last time i posted about it.

it contains a few items which are personal to me and my family, mixed in with a few items which i was drawn to, things which i found interesting.

i want there to be a mix of objects because i want to hide the true meaning of my work.

im putting my memories and emotions, even my personal belongings out there for everyone to see and be apart of, i want to get these things out in the open, but i dont want the world to know.

im aware that my work is a huge contradiction, but does that really matter? im sharing these things in my own way, and if you dont bother to read into my work or find its true meaning do you really deserve to know me this deeply?

theres a lot more which i need to add, i have a lot of ideas! when im ready i will share them!

this week at uni, i was given the chance to display some work on the ideas board.

the ideas board is in an area of our block which is always busy, the idea behind it is that you display anything you want which is to do with your work, such as thoughts, research, inspiration, sketches and actual work. in order to gain feedback from other students and turtors.

this is helpful because i don’t just work with fine artists, i work with graphic designers and 3D designers too, its nice to have a fresh pair of eyes on your work, to maybe point something out which you’ve missed or even a different way of thinking about the work.

i displayed a huge wave of butterflies, a few photos of my cabinet so far and some thoughts and inspiration behind my work.

i enjoyed the experience, i got some amazing feedback, i feel refreshed and ready to get back to work!

I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been too busy to even think about this.

however! I’m back and I have a lot of updates on my work!

I started to paint my butterflies, I wanted to still be able to see the photos underneath and I feel that I have achieved that.

they look almost real from a distance, its only when you see them up close that you can tell they aren’t quite right. I like that.

as a part of my cabinet, i want to include framed insects.

i thought that it might be a nice idea to make my own instead of just using random ones that don’t relate to me personally.

i plan on doing this by cutting butterflies and other insects out of copies of the old family photos i have used previously.

i’m going to paint/draw over them and then arrange them in frames, but for now, these are the unfinished butterflies i have so far, just hanging nicely on my studio wall.

i will be posting their progress for you all to see!

started to make my own curio cabinet as a part of my uni work!

i want everything in the cabinet to somehow relate back to me. the body of work i am going to produce has the same under lying theme as last semester, the reincarnation of lost loved ones.

i’m going to say that i want around half of the curios in the cabinet to be personal and the other half to be random, as a kind of deterrent to what the piece really is.

its hard to explain properly, but i’m sure it will become clearer the more i post about it!

also! i know its really tiny right now, but it will grow! i promise!

Me with my work at spectrum! :)

Ooops ;)

This came in the post yesterday!
I started reading it today an I’ve almost finished it!
some of the stuff in it is crazy..
Its one of the most open memoirs I’ve read.. She treats it more like a piece of art work rather than an autobiographical, factual book.
Its amazing!
